Reiki was first channeled to Sensei Mikao Usui during a mystical experience he had whilst fasting on Mount Kurama around 1922.  While his teachings form the basis for many different types of Reiki, at the traditional Usui system of Buddho Reiki is used at The Velvet Ripple.

Mikao Usui

Reiki is a very simple and effective form of energy healing. The literal translation from Japanese is ‘Spiritual Life Force'.  During a session of Reiki this Spiritual Life Force is channeled into the client through the hands of the practitioner.  This allows imbalances in the physical, emotional and spiritual self to be realigned and brought into balance.

What to expect during a session?

Treatment takes place fully clothed on a padded table, covered by a light covering while soft gentle music is played.  It is suggested that you wear loose comfortable clothing for your session and shoes that are easily removed.  If you are unable to lie comfortably on a table Reiki can be given while you are seated.  During your session your practitioner will lay their hands gently around centres in the body known as chakras and the Reiki energy will be transferred to you.  If there are any particular places you feel a discomfort when touched, please feel free to raise this at the start of your session.  All requests will be treated with respect and are easily accommodated.  Each person's experience of Reiki is unique, but the overwhelming majority of clients report feeling a great sense of relaxation at the end of their session.

What can Reiki be used for?

Reiki can be used to treat physical illness, emotional blockages and spiritual issues. The person receiving the Reiki energy will priorities’ at a subconscious level what will be healed.
